Platonic Solids Collection

The five Platonic Solids are the only perfectly regular three-dimensional shapes in existence — the tetrahedron (4 equilateral triangle faces), cube (6 square faces), octahedron (8 equilateral triangle faces), dodecahedron (12 regular pentagon faces), and icosahedron (20 equilateral triangle faces). Plato associated each with one of the classical elements: fire, earth, air, the cosmos, and water.

These five shapes are the geometric building blocks of all matter. They appear in crystal structures, viral protein coats, and the arrangement of atoms. They are the only shapes where every face, edge, and vertex is identical — perfect symmetry in three dimensions.

"The Platonic solids are prominent in the philosophy of Plato, their namesake. Plato wrote about them in the dialogue Timaeus, associating each with a classical element."
